What is a Regular or Conventional boiler?
Regular or conventional boilers are also known as ‘heat only’ boilers or even traditional boilers. They work on the principle that hot water is stored in a hot water tank and this is used to heat the house and is used to produce hot water in your taps. Central heating systems using a regular boiler were the first type of central heating system to be installed in homes. They are made up of several components.
Two of these components of the heating system are usually located in the loft space of a house. These are the cold water storage tank along with the feed and expansion tank which maintains the water level of the central heating system. Then there is the hot water cylinder or hot water tank which is usually located in the airing cupboard. The external controls of the boiler are usually located some distance away from the actual boiler itself.
If you are looking at replacing an older boiler, it’s more than likely your existing system will be a regular, or conventional boiler. If your property has an older radiator system it is usually best to choose another a regular/conventional boiler for your home, as a combi boiler or system boiler may create water pressure that is too much for older systems to handle.
There are some benefits to a regular boiler. They work even if the water pressure coming from the mains is low. They also facilitate for multiple rooms to receive hot water at the same time.
